IV Antibiotics

My daughter just got her first picc line placed a few days ago. It is basically a much easier way to give antibiotics. Instead of having to move the IV around every few days when it no longer is good, this way they go much deeper into a vein on the upper arm that can keep for a long time. The kids are put to sleep for about 30 minutes and during a small surgical procedure they place the PICC. It is easily pulled out after the IV's are finished. The kids are able to run around pretty easily when it is in unlike regular IV's.

My son Aidan at age 1 also had severe sinus issues. After months of oral antibiotics, he was still a mess so IVs it was. He had a PICC placed just as Sharon described. We were in the hospital for two days and then did 4 weeks of IV antibiotics at home. It worked wonders! He really had no side effects with the antibiotics that he was on.

They can still run around and do their normal stuff with the PICC. We cut the bottom off of a tube sock and just wrapped the sock around the PICC site, it worked great. From our experience, IVs worked best for the severe sinus issues. Best of luck.

Sharon- here's to a speedy recovery for Sophia. Is she able to do her PFTs on that machine? Aidan can't do them yet. Megan
