IV Meds and School

WE are, for the first time, facing the possibility of IV meds next month after a bronchoscopy. When on home IVs, with a three times a day dose, can kids go to school? DS is in 10th grade--not sure what to expect if he needs to do the whole IV thing?

I'd contact the school and discuss him doing meds during the day. I do it all the time but that's in college and no one cares

I would definitely talk to the school but usually the drs can figure out a way to dose the IVs around his schedule. I did home IVs in HS and was always about to do them around school, even when I had them 4x a day. Just had to wake up early for a bit and stay up late some other times.

Worth it though.

Aidan is 6 and has had IV meds a lot. We always fix the schedule so we do it before school, after school and at night. Sometimes he has to go in late to school...

I feel sorry for him. It would be traumatizing to have to go to high school wearing an IV pump. I would avoid it unless it's absolutely necessary.

I have a 10th grader too. She was on IV meds for 2+ months last year and I set up her infusion schedule to not conflict with school. Of course, it meant middle of the night/early a.m., but it worked and I didn't have to involve the school or interrupt her school schedule.
