My daughter cultured PA for the first time two weeks ago. They started her on 270 ml of IV Tobra 12 days ago while she was in the hospital. They tested her peak levels after two doses. I don't know the results but I know that they did not change the dose. After 8 doses the visiting nurse came to our house and drew blood to test her trough level. It was "2" and it should be at least 5 so they increased her dose to 390 ml.
Here is my question. Should they be testing her peak levels again after two of these higher doses? They will be testing her trough level on Monday so they will have the results for her clinic appt on Tuesday. Still, it seems like such a huge dosage jump.
The last time I called the doctors on the weekend they didn't return my call. I made the mistake (?) of saying it wasn't an emergency. It wasn't a 911 level emergency but Lauren did get admitted the following Wednesday. If I call this weekend I will have to say that it is an emergency to get a call back. My other choice is to go to Urgent Care or the ER and ask them to order the test. Finally, I could just trust the doctors and wait until I see them on Tuesday. I am so new to this that I need some guidance.
What are your thoughts?
