We used Dr Mark Hughes from Genesis Genetics in Michigan. He pioneered the CF process and has done hundreds of PGD CF cases. I believe the rate of error is less than 2% esp with our Double Delta case. IVF was covered by NJ Plus Horizon Blue Cross. I am a teacher and have pretty good insurance, I fought for the PGD but was repeatedly denied.

We went to an IVF clinic in NJ. After embryos are fertilized, a cell is taken at Day 3 and sent to Michigan. They test the DNA of the cell for 19 straight hours and on Day 5, send the results back to the IVF clinic. Then the transfer. Good luck, Megan</end quote></div>

Doesn't NJ have the Family Building Act? New Jersey law requires that group policies covering 50 or more people, and covering pregnancy-related expenses, need to cover the cost of the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. This includes sugery, IVF, GIFT, ZIFT, ICSI, embryo transfer, and IUI. Up to a maxmimum of four egg retrievals can also be performed. Religious organizations may be exempt.

I find this all so interesting... I live in NJ and I went to see a top fertility specialist.. DR Garcia... he was a pioneer in IVF.. I saw him a few years ago when I had one of my fibroid surgeries.. They were the only ones at the time that were willing to do surgery on my uterus without doing a hysterectomy.

When I see posts like this, it makes my heart jump because it makes me think that I can have a baby still...

Congrats to you,

Jennifer

Megan,

Congrats on the successful IVF and pregnancy. Mark and I had PGD planned as a back up in the event that I was a carrier of a CF mutation. I can't wait to hear if it's one or two babies!!!

A huge congrats again, I know there are lots of questions asked about PGD for parents of CFers who want another child. I think it's great that you are sharing this!

Dr. Mark Hughes is a great guy. I have some quotes on my website from him, I conversed with him on a number of occasions when I was putting my CF male infertility site together. He's a very smart guy! WHat a small world!

Khristina,
a good place to get some recommendations on offices in your area that do PGD is a website called www.inciid.org It's an infertility chat website and I got a lot of good information and recommendations from them.

When we lived in CA we were seen by REPRODUCTIVE PARTNERS and if I recall correctly, they DO PGD at their offices. They have some in So. CA and some in North CA.

Rutgersnyy,

Yes NJ does have a family building act. Megan only paid for the PGD, not the IVF....
