Hi all,was jsut wondering if any of your children may suffer the same issues at this very young age. Most of the pain is in the knees, legs and ankles. Any other information would be appreciated. Thankyou

DS is also 6 and complains of leg, knee and ankle pain quite a bit. I had talked to his ped. and she said it is most likely "growing pains". I'd love to see how everyone else responds though, because I don't remember my daughter having that problem. Is there any particular time of day that is the worst? DS complains a lot in the evenings and sometimes in the mornings.

look into adding magnesium into his diet...it helps with growing pains and usually CFers need lots of it.
this site gives dosages
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://sharktank.org/sharktank/CF_supplement_guide.html
">http://sharktank.org/sharktank...supplement_guide.html
</a>
and you can head over to my blog for more info on magnesium...

while you are there check out my post on omega 3's they help a lot with inflammation, not only in the joints, but also in the lungs

blessings,
missa

My daughter deals with this too..I was told the same, that it was probably growin pains. Usually happens toward the evenings and it usually bothers her knees and ankles. Tylenol usually does the trick.

Tracey, mom to Sydney 9 w/cf/asthma/type 1 diabetes, and Seth, w/cf - both ddf508

Yeah I had horrible growing pains in my hips/knees/ankles/legs when I was younger, usually advil or motrin did the trick as it deals with pain and helps with any inflammation. Sometimes a heating pad helped or actually just getting up and moving around some.

Thanks to all for your replies. The pains are mostly evening and early morning. She usualy wakes up through the night crying saying that shes in pain. I usually just give some panadol and somtimes a heat pack to help ease the pain. Im not too sure about growing pains, althugh it might be a possibilty. I guess the next step is to ask and clinic and have them further investigate the situation.
As for Magnesium, its def somthing i will look into. We are already on some omega oils and have been so for a couple of years.
Thanks again, i will keep you posted on our outcomes and progress.

Yes my son is 5 and he complains about knee pain too. So I took him to his Peds doctor and he did x-rays come to find out he has effusion on his right knee cap...the doctor referred me to a specialist in Orthopediactrics...I asked his CF doctor if it was HPOA and she told me he was too young to have this CF related joint disease...I am not stopping at that answer...we are our childrens advocates we need answers...they want to tell you the minimum....

sincerely, Alice
