Julie, are you here yet?

Hmm Enough said in the topic I suppose. I hope all is well with the IVF, when can you do a preggie test?

Brian is driving me up the wall about this thing on his kidney. I hope we get his surgery scheduled for next week. At least then we have something firm to look ahead to and we can get the cancer question answered. Do you happen to know if the navy will keep him if he loses the kidney? I hope so, he just reenlisted in September and he really doesn't want to do anything else.

Hi Julie,

I thought since this message was directed to you i might ask you a question, seeing you will most deffinately read it.
I have tried to email you but for some reason the (stupid) thing keeps coming back as unsent error. I don't know why, i will have to get my husband to have a look at it and see whats up.

Anyway, back to what i wanted to ask you. I just wanted to know if stimulating your ovaries to produce more eggs, has any significant side affects ie: reproductive system, periods, or any future problems.

Regards

Hey froggy, I can take the test next Tuesday the 21st. I can't wait!!!!!! Thanks for thinking of me!!!

Taking a kidney out shouldn't affect his ability to stay in-provided there are no complications associated with the surgery. He can still fully function with only 1 kidney so there shouldn't be anything that he CANNOT do.

Eli, was it the email you were having touble with??? Try copying and pasting either of these two email addresses 1. division902@hotmail.com 2. cystic_fibrosis_male_infertility@yahoo.com
I can answer your question here though, no problem.
After an IVF stimulation cycle, some women experiece Ovarian Hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), I personally am having a minor bout with it. For me it is just REALLY uncomfortable, but not anything dangerous. I just have to keep drinking gatorade and making sure that I am urinating often so I am not dehydrated. Some women get more severe OHSS that requires acutal measuring of fluid intake and fluid output and some women (a good friend of mine did, you can see her website at www.jordanshome.com) require draining of the fluid in the abdomen, but it's a really fast and painless procedure. If a woman ignores it and it goes untreated there can be complications (as is the case with anything). Only a VERY small percentage of women get OHSS, something like 2% of all who use infertility drugs. It is more common in younger women, although nobody can figure that out.

As far as periods, women who have an uncuccessful IVF (i.e. doesn't result in a pregnancy) sometimes have to wait a month or two for their period to start again but doctors say that is usually dependent on how a womans cycle is normally and how her body reacts to the hormones. The hormones is what delays the pregnancy and some women acutally take a shot or some pills to start their period, but not too many.

No women that I have heard of (in all my talking to others and research) have had future complications of anything fertility related or otherwise.

Current research shows that a woman can do an ovarian stimulating cycle 6 times before she risks any problems with her ovaries. This would apply to whether you are taking the meds to donate your eggs (something I would acutally like to do someday for those women who have problems with their own eggs-knowing firsthand the pain of infertility) or taking the meds and then going on with a transfer to try and get pregnant.

Hope this answers your questions, let me know if you have more.

FROGGY-Tell Brian I hope his surgery goes well. You'll have to baby him for a while after the surgery

Thanks Julie! He'll be relieved to hear that he can stay in with one kidney, he loves the Navy. His mom will be coming for two weeks when he has his surgery so that will be a big help because I just can't take that much time off of work but I don't want him to be home alone a whole bunch. Then his brother and/or best friend might come out after that.
