Hey all, I was just wondering how many of you cough up mucus? I have read posts on here and people seemed surprised when they coughed up stuff when sick, so is it not common?I usually cough up like 2 tablespoons worth of light greenish crap every day. My cultures have pseudomonas in them. I am a swimmer, and I also use the flutter to clear out.Anyways, I thought part of having cf was this lung mucus thickening. (?)I am 24 y/o male w/ cf. Engaged to be married in 2005. =)

Coughing up mucus is soooo normal and expected. Some people's respritory symptoms are mild and so they are surprised when they cough up stuff more than normal. This can be brought on by humidity changes in the air, pollen and allergies and infections, even mild ones.Coughing up occasional blood is totally normal,too. Chronic coughing can irritate the throat and sometimes pop blood vessels in the lungs.Debbie22 yr old w/ CF
