What kind of formula do you have him on?

Brianna (1 month old today) was doing the same thing, except it was ALL day. When she was awake, she was never content... always crying or fussing. What is AJ doing DURING feeding time? Brianna was spitting her formula out but trying to suck it down - we knew she was hungry but it seemed that she was in pain while eating.. turns out she was having BAD gas pains & after about 3 pediatrician visits, we found out she is sensative to milk based formulas (very common in newborns) - so, we switched her to a soy formula (Enfamil ProSobee or Similac Isomil) and that helped for a few days but then things went bad again... even the "Sensative" formula we tried (said it reduced colic) was milk based. It turns out she gets an upset tummy from the soy protein too (also very common we were told by her doctor).. soooo now we have her on Similac Alimentum (pretty expensive but it WORKS) and she is handling that excellent. She is such a HAPPIER baby and the colic seems to be going away. She still has her normal fussy baby moments, but she also is able to be awake and content now and eats during the middle of the night feedings without it being a 2 hour long project and having cry fits.

I know how you feel - Kenny and I were going CRAZY with her screaming cries (she hates being swaddled too... just minutes after she was born she made her way out of the swaddle and ripped her diaper off! hahaha). If it's something that you notice happens during or shortly after feedings, really try switching the formula... there are SO many formulas out there and now I know why!!

aj is actually on the hypoallergenic formula by enfamil, the most expensive kind, 25 bucks for a 16oz can. he didn't tolerate anything else. he spit it all back up. he looked so sad when he was spitting it broke my heart. so now he's on the hypoallergenic formula, zantac, reglan, and we are mixing in rice into his formula. i will be sure to ask on monday when he goes to the doctor. he's gonna be an unhappy camper! but oh well it's for his own good! thanks guys!

good luck with everything. morgan still fusses sometimes, but i just rock her really hard and pat her butt and she falls asleep.
i went from breastfeeding for two months to walmart brand milk based formula and she does great on it. formula is so damn expensive. i'm glad morgan tolerated the cheapest formula. i know walmart brand(parents choice) has many different formula's to choose from. if you compare the nutrition lable of enfimil and similac to the one on parents choice it almost identical, i think parents choice has a higher percent of stuff.
i hope you end up sovling the problem

Okay, this is gonna sound a little nuts, lol, but Abigail did have a touch of colic (and was on meds for reflux), usually between 2 and 4 pm- so, so inconsolable . I discovered- I don't remember how, lol- that the sound of the vacuum cleaner would put her to sleep . Also, when I cuddled her, I used to put my face on top of her head, and breathe through my nose right up against the very top of her head- that soothed her too (and still does sometimes, even though she's four! lol).

Also, have you tried the "baby roll" to help if he has gas? You take their little feet (almost like a game) and kind roll them up to their head and roll back down (to help the gas get moving in their tummy- kinda like you laying on your back and rolling up in a backwards sit up so you can put your hands under your butt and do the "bicycle" in the air? Does that make sense at all? lol

Let's see- we also had a "noise maker" sound machine thingy that we set to "crickets" and put in her room (it was battery operated, as well as plug in). That ended up being great for being away from home- her "sleepy time" sounds could go with her (and also masked any strange noises, or us coming in to check on her), and she usually slept wherever we were .
