Theresa, did they mention a 5T, 7T, or 9T associated with her R117H mutation?</end quote></div>

Heidi,

They did not give us that number. After getting the original gene number of R117H - I rushed back to the office and looked here and then realized we needed to find out the other part. The article I was referred to above really makes a dilineation between them; so I will be finding out!

(my son didn't show symptoms until age 21) </end quote></div>

Alyssa,

I read your blog and the information about how they came to the diagnosis for your kiddos. It makes me wonder about my daughter. She was diagnosed with "seasonal asthma" when she was 14. Every year starting in October she would get sick and be sick off and on through March. She still does this.

Most common diagnosis is Bronchitis. But - since she is where the DF508 gene is coming from; it has me wondering. I called her and told her I want her to talk to her family doctor about potentially being tested. As long as I can remember she has coughed non-stop through the winter. Always a productive cough. She has had Pneumonia a few times and is also very prone to Strep. In fact - she is sick right now.

There was a serious case of CF in our family with 2 of Jennifer's cousins and this is why we had her screened when she became pregnant. The doctor suggested it when he heard the family history.

I have a blogsite as well, I started posting there with Brayden's difficulties. I used it as a way to communicate to our families what was going on with him.

I appreciate the welcome here and have sent Jennifer the links. She is feeling a little bombarded at the moment - but I know she is doing research as well.

Thanks!

Your daughter may be experiencing carrier symptoms - there is some documentation of that happening with those who have the Delta F508 gene. It is also possible she has another CF gene and has a case of CF herself.... was it only a screening that was done on her during pregnancy? I would think with her symptom and carrier status she should be able to get full genetic testing without too much trouble.

I'm off to read your websites.... I've worked with a lot of CP kids for therapeutic horseback riding so I do have a little bit of experience there.
