I will agree that the med costs are crazy...thank god Medicare part D was passed this year, I use Humana Complete which by far covers the most as far as my meds are concerned...my enzymes and even my IV antibiotics are covered, I do pay a copay. My nebulized meds are covered by Medicare part B, I have secondary insurance which covers the 20% that Medicare doesn't pay..thank goodness for that or I would have a huge co-pay for meds like TOBI and Pulmozyme. I also take Xopenex which isn't as expensive as TOBI, but it runs about $300 a month without insurance. So...I am grateful that I have coverage, it could be worse that's for sure. I did not have any problems, when I inhaled the Tobramycin for injection once, but I did get problems with the Tobi!
So in my opinion the approvement is not everything...especially if you think who has to test a special medicine for cf: only a test by Cfers will be of any use, but as we are already sick, noone knows what reactions will come due to the different forms of cf and you will not know the long-term-effects for shure because either the test-person will die relatively early or you won´t know, if any problems are caused by the medication or cf itself...

I've taken the inhaled Tobra since I was about 15. I never had a problem before, but since I've been on it recently doing the one month thing, I notice that my lungs feel irritated after I'm done my treatments, and I get spasms during. I think I'm going to talk to my doc about doing TOBI instead. Maybe it will feel better on my lungs.

Hi,

in central Europe (Czech republic) I pay for common antibiotics : 15-20$ for a month.
Hypertonic saline is free, Pulmozyme is free, Creon is free, Colistin is free, only for CF and all have to be aproved by "inspection doctor"and it vary half a year...
I pay for cure medicaments and supplementary medicaments and vitamins about 35-45$ for a month...average wages in Czech rep. is about 730-750$ for a month.

bye john81john(25 CF)
