Just feeling down

OMG! I totally fell the same way! Every morning, sometimes up to 3 times a day, Briceton wakes with a messy diaper with poo everywhere and on everything. Requiring a bath, sheet change, blanket change, and clothes to be rinsed, these poos are enough to drive a mother crazy! Poor kid, his car seat is going to have to just be thrown away and his curtains just reek of foul smells. The smell of his poo doesn't even give Lysol a run for its money.....nothing can take the poo smell away!

So the poo has made us a prisoner too....shackled and chained to the changing table!

Definitely been through that. My CF boy is 4+ now and out of that stage, but we still have plenty of occasions to call upon our extensive knowledge of which stores and shopping malls & public buildings have private "family" bathrooms & keep a travel potty in the car & spare clothes go with us on any outing. Those days of poosplosions are memorably disgusting; my wife threw away plenty of clothing with my blessing in those days rather than haul it home in the car (where it was my job to scrape it clean in the basement).

When my boy was old enough to take prevacid solutabs, his enzymes started working much better than when he used zantac with them. Don't know why, but things got alot more regular after then.

Ahhh, the poop up the back times. Doing his laundry almost every day. At least two baths a day. Carting along extra changes of clothes... Changing DS in the back of my SUV on a busy highway, along the side of the bikepath during a great strides walk when it was very chilly outside. He still talks about the time he was sitting at Grandma's house and pooped on the back of the chair. "Good times"

'Course this past weekend he thought I needed to take yet ANOTHER photo of what he left in the toilet because it was "shaped like a candy cane. do you think that's funny, mommy?"

Ahh yes - I remember well (and still experience occasionally). Sounds like you're hanging in there - but there may be a few things to look into. When our little guy's poops were 4-6+ a day we took the matter to our CF docs. Ultimately (after much trial and error) they upped the enzyme dosage to get us to a 2-3 per day pattern. They also had us change his formula from a pre-digested (Pregestimil) to a soy-based. You may have already explored the 'call the doc" option.

Also, is your little one on any antibiotics? Our little one just finished a round and the monster poops reared their head again a few times during the 2-wk course. Thankfully they go away as soon as off the antibios. As for the smell - I have no suggestions other than to limit the diaper changing to the little one's room to the extent possible. We still have to open up the windows and 'air out' occasionally even when it's chilly and stormy (which is a fair amount of time here in Oregon).

Good luck!
