We just got our nebulizer. Halsey is 2 and not enjoying this at all! Kicking, screaming, holding her breath while trying just to do the bronchodilator. Haven't even gotten to the hypertonic saline yet! Help...tricks for first time, how do you get a 2 year old to cooperate!!???

Since no one has responded yet, (even though I don't have a child with CF) try to distract her. Have special activities for her to do while doing the treatments. Maybe a new coloring book, sticker book, playdough... I'm sure there are many others who have better ideas than I, but just wanted to be sure that someone got back to you tonight. Lots of luck!

I know this sounds a little extreme, but when my son starting doing nebs he was very tiny, but I would have to basket-hold him to get him to take his nebs. I was actually told several times during hospital stays that his fighting it was a good thing b/c he was inhaling deeper when he was screaming. Its almost heartbreaking the first few times, but not as much as watching my son struggle to breathe. After a while it just became part of his day, and Now he tells ME if he needs to do extra nebs! It just takes some getting used t. Hope it all works out.

We pretty much said the same thing -- at least if he's screaming, his lungs are getting a good work out. Thankfully, those times were few and far between. DS HATED having the elastic band from the mask around his head, so one of us would hold it to his face and he was fine. Nowdays he doesn't mind it 'cuz he plays video games and our hands would get in the way if we held the nebulizer.
