I applied for SSI about a month ago and today just got a check from the US Treasury rather unexpectedly. I was told by a SSI social worker that the medical review and disability determination process generally takes 4-6 months, if not longer.
I signed all the medical releases, etc. just a few weeks ago. I haven't even received a letter yet saying I was approved for SSI. I got a check, so of course I'm extremely happy about that, but I have some questions.
Does approval for SSI also mean that I now have some type of SSI-related health insurance? I have medicaid through the state right now and it's pretty good insurance but I was told SSI insurance is the best kind of state insurance one can have.
Not really sure what to think or what to do from here... is SSI only a check every month or does it come with insurance as well?
