Hello everyone,

I just joined today. I wanted to see what kind of fit people were on here. I am very suprised to see so many very healthy people out there. I have never met anyone with CF outside the hospitals. I just got off an at home IV and wanted to start (again) running. A few days ago I ran 2 miles in 20 mins and yesterday I tried 1 mile at about 8:40. I know I ran a 6min in high school so this is my long term goal.
I wanted to ask people to post up their mile times!
Also if anyone has any pointers about motivation or training it would be great. It can be really frustrating when one day I run 9 mins easy and other days I die doing 10:30:/

Thanks guys and girls! I am excited to read through all of these threads. I get tired of working out with 'normal' people who are able to progress MUCH faster than me and actually put on muscle. It sucks because I am really athletic, but CF limits me so much.

I understand. I run to stay healthy too. I will be running in a 16 mile race on August 25th, 2012. Some days I have my good days and some days its very hard. But, exercise is a must and is so beneficial for us! I ran a 6 minute mile in high school too! I am no where near that now. I did run a half marathon 3 weeks ago, my time was 2 hours and 2 minutes, so I am just happy that I could accomplish that! Right now my mile time is 7:30, if I am just running one mile.

Hi there,While I don't have any expertise to offer or exercise daily, I can give you some good resources you can look at bedsides on our forums. Not sure if you have done any research and found these people....Ronnie Sharpe is a runner and has CF himself. He offer's all kinds of tips and advice on his blog at www.runsickboyrun.blogspot.com

Jerry Cahill is also another runner living with CF and he is STILL running after his double lung transplant in April of this year! I beleive his Facebook is public which means you can view it even if you're not friends with him. He posts updates everyday. You can find out more about Jerry at www.facebook.com/jerry.cahill1 or you can visit his website at www.youcannotfail.com

Mills, I think a 10:30 miles is awesome, and Sabrina, wow on the 1/2 marathon and 7:30 mile (that's about my high school time--when I barely had asthma). I ran the 400m and hurdles in track in h.s.

I do cardio dance these days and rock climbing, and occasionally sign up for a 5k race for social reasons. I did the "Warrior Dash" last weekend. It's a 5k obstacle course race -- crawling in mud under barbed wire, wading in water, climbing walls/ropes/cargo nets, leaping over fire. Good times. My mile was 14 min.

Thanks for the replies everyone

Does anyone else have a problem viewing the posts with no text wraping? I have to scroll way right to see the posts. Maybe it will work itself out.

Thanks for the info Amber. I will check those out.

For some reason the text goes all the way off to the side on random topics. I have no idea why...

Jerry just posted a news article in the Adult section about the 10K marathon he completed today in NY city. His user name here is BigAir

Welcome mills. I do about an 8:30 mile or about 27 minutes for a 5K (3.1 miles). Used to run 6 min miles as a kid.
I have the same problem, some days very hard, some days easier, dont know why all the time. I've been correlating it somewhat to my blood sugar lately though. Been plagued with a lot of gout and a knee issue that have forced some time off here and there. The most frustrating thing though is that when I take 3-4 days off, its like I've regressed what is equivalent to a few weeks for other people. A week off is like a month off. : ( But I keep plugging away every day. I run (usually treadmill while nebulizing) instead of CPT or vest, seems much more effective for me personally.

Great to hear about so much exercise! I do a lot of running and other endurance sports to keep my CF in check. Pace depends on the distance and if I'm trying to go hard that day...can be anywhere from 7:15 to 9:45 per mile. I think I went 5:15 in a mile at a track meet once (w/ track spikes), but those days are *long* gone. Keep it up everyone!

My 10 year old daughter ran her 1 mile in 10 min. She started running agaisnt her wishes in January this year. I added 1 minute every week. Went real slow because I have her mom and brother on the running program. Now she has not used albuterol in months, nor taken insuling. I figure in a couple more years, I'll bump up her mileage to 3. Motivation? I am a former Marine. I want to instill on her the military codes of to never quit. Based on what I have read, every single CF Warrior that have live past their life expectancy is because they never quit and they keep moving forward. These are the people, especially in this blog thingy that are the ones who inspired me the most.

I run my best at 8:00 min miles, but it's far too hot for that now. I now run 10:00 minute miles but my FEV1 is 84% right now. For a single mile, I can do 6:30 but definitely not in this heat. I say it doesn't really matter your time, you are out there doing it and that's what counts. I always tell myself "you CAN do this" and I often talk to myself as I run..."press on, press on, press on....". I think of Paul saying he presses on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christy Jesus. So I continue and press on!

I am a runner and truly enjoy it. I believe running is why I am in the shape I am in. If you ever have questions please feel free to ask. I would love to help. I have a page at https://www.facebook.com/RunningShapeCo. I would love it for anyone to visit it and "Like" it. It is more of a page about running and tips to stay healthy and less about running and CF. However I believe they are somewhat one and the same.
If wanting to know I have ran many races from short too long. I applaud all of you for your hard work; I know it is not always easy.
Again feel free to ask me questions if you would like. =)
