Kale might be bad for you if you have elevated liver enzymes or try to gain weight

Kale contains bile acid sequestrants. BAS bind bile acids in the intestine and prevents them from doing their job (fat digestion). As a result, the liver has to produce even more of them and since it uses LDL cholesterol to do that, it will lower your LDL cholesterol levels. Ursodiol is one of those acids that BAS binds to. So if you have elevated liver enzymes and require ursodiol therapy, eating kale is probably a bad idea for you. If you're trying to gain weight, it's probably a bad idea for you to eat it with fatty foods or to eat it at all.

Some side effects of taking bile acid sequestrant medication are elevated liver enzymes, weight loss and vitamin A, D, E, K deficiency.

I was looking for a replacement for kale and found that collard greens may also contain BAS. It's in the same cultivar group as kale. So it's not a good idea to eat that either.
