Kidney failure from vanco

Just wondering if I was the only one who developed kidney failure from vanco? Seems rare and the docs were surprised it happened to me. I was on dialysis for one month. Luckily my kidney function returned.

Anyone else in this club?????

Well, I didn't have complete failure, but it makes my creatin levels go sky high. After the 3rd dose my kidneys start hurting. I have to be carefully monitored while infusing until they adjust the dosage that my kidneys can handle safely.

I think it has caused me damage, because I've had kidney pain issues this whole year after having 2 rounds of Vanco. I just had a kidney ultrasound 2 weeks ago and my right kidney is dilated. I see a urologist next week to see if he thinks it's the beginning of failure. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0"> So, yeah I'm concerned.

Glad to hear your function resumed, what a relief for you!

A similar thing happened to me about 10 years ago when I was on IV Tobra, and Ceftazadime. I had to be on an extremely no protein diet for a few weeks. It was MISERABLE. The doctors weren't sure I was going to pull out of it with the loss of function I had sustained.

Things are okay now, but I still have to be cautious when I'm on IVs.
