Hi Marie,
I too started having kidney stones this past year. Passed at least 4 of them within a years time but never was able to 'catch' them. So I am not sure how many really passed. Via a 24 hour urine analysis my urologist identified low citrate levels (which is what helps to break down oxalate stones - most common type of stone for CF patients. It was also determined that I had a low urine output. Soooo I was placed on potassium citrate (it is basically a prescribed supplement here in the states) which does not stop stone formation but does break them down so they don't cause any problems. And I increased fluid (water) intake significantly. Since adding these two things I have eliminated any stone issues. No more trips to the emergency for stones and no more pain meds contributing to lung exacerbations. It was a very good solution and I highly recommend getting a 24 hour urine analysis for id of what may be deficient or increased in your urine.
Take good care - hope things get better for you

My son would constantly get Kidney stones. He has 3 or 4 lithotripsy's. When he had passed away, he was scheduled to see a specialist that was going to try to figure out why he his body would make kidney stones as fast as he could get rid of them.

One thing that will help (tricks from the Urologist). Lemonade, for some reason lemonade helps prohibit kidneys stones.

My sister gets kidney stones from time to time, and one of the contributing factors to her kidney stones, was she was drinking too much caffeine. (Coffee, energy drinks, etc.)

last year i had a size 17mm stone-that is a mammoth sized stone. it took 4 months and 6 lithotripsy's to destroy it. it was actually too big to safely operate on-i could have had permanent damage to my bladder.
so yes i believe there is a correlation-mostly bc we're on so many meds that take a toll on the body's flushing organs.
my view of staying hydrated permanently changed!

I've had a terrible time with kidney stones since I turned 30! At 1st I was told to just drink more water & eat a low-oxalate diet, but it wasn't enough. I was still making stones! So finally, I was referred to a kidney stone prevention specialist. Great improvement!! I now take potassium citrate & Tums with every meal. Every 3 months I do a 24-hour urine test to check oxalate & calcium levels. Since starting potassium citrate 1 1/2 years ago I've only had "gravel", which is a lot less painful then stones! It's really tough sticking to the diet though. I love so many of the high-oxalate foods! Especially chocolate!
