Hi everyone,

I am wondering about if CF has kinds showing different effetcs to the patient. By the way is the cl concentration at sweat a considerable value for this. For CF for exmaple a patient having 100 cl at sweat will have the same CF effecst in his body as a patient 300 cl.

Thank you all,

Regards.

This is probably a question for a CF doctor, but from what I understand once a sweat test is positive, it doesn't matter HOW positive it is. Though this does seem counter intuitive since sweat tests measure the extent to which the CFTR does or doesn't work, I don't believe there has been a correlation found between sweat chloride scores and speed of progression or severity of illness.

One definitive thing- maybe the only one- about having a sweat test of say, 100+, is that it's much more of a 'lock' on the diagnosis. Some people with borderline results can be far more symptomatic but have a harder time securing their diagnosis due to their results.

Some mutations are more loosely associated with borderline or even normal sweat test results, but again, this says nothing about long-term prognosis.

Just as a side note, the highest sodium chloride level physiologically possible for someone to have is about 160.
