I ran across this article about a grandmother who wants to give away her granddaughters vest. The phone number is at the bottom of the article.

Thanks for posting this. This was a touching story.

Does Medicare actually BUY the vest for you? I was under the impression that the vest is simply on loan until you no longer need it and have to send it back to the company? That is how my vest was, anyway. My insurance "purchased" it for me, but its still considered a loan... Even though it was several thousands of dollars. Urgh.

Also, be careful with regard to germs if you decide to take someone elses' medical equipment. I know when you give them back to the vest company, they have special procedures to sterilize the equipment, but when you have it in your home and wipe it down with clorox or something before giving it away, there is still a chance of cross-contamination.

Either way, this is a very kind thing of her to do. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Our was purchased. But, it was paid for by our primary insurance. Originally, we were told that insurance had a $5K annual limit on what they would pay. So, they were going to 'rent' it to us to the tune of $5K per year until we paid the purchase price and then it was ours.

I don't know what happened to that plan, because initially primary insurance rejected the claim and 3 months later, they paid it in full, plus $200 over what the company billed for.

Its ours. Apparently, the company does lifetime maintenance on the equipment and provides us with vests for as long as he needs them. I have NO idea what we'll do when we no longer need the equipment, probably something like this grandmother and give it away. I'm hoping its so far in the future that we just don't have to think about it anytime soon.
