Lemons in tea with honey is indeed a time-tested sore throat remedy. Lemon juice is good for improving the flavor of vegetables--even broccoli! (Too bad it can't stop the flatulence though.)
Lemons contain more than half of the amount of vitamin C that we need to consume in a day. They may also help relieve dry mouth, by stimulating saliva production in response to the acidity.
On the other hand, lemons are so acidic that they may damage tooth enamel. This is especially of concern to people who are on lots of medications that may already be experiencing tooth problems. If you're using lemon zest (a little bit of the peel) in your food, be careful. Don't zest a lemon without rinsing it first, since it may contain trace amounts of fungicide. For this reason it is best to avoid waxed lemons--the wax can trap the chemicals making them very difficult to remove.
Another thing to watch out for in the lemon peel is limonene. This is an oil that occurs naturally in the lemon, and is usually extracted for use in lemon-scented cleaning products. Limonene is potentially an irritant, so if you're sensitive to oils, it's best to wear food handler's gloves when working with lemon.
