Length/regularity of cycles

I got my period at 13 and it has always been regular. I got pregnant with my son easily and with no fertility drugs. We TTC ed for our 2nd for a year before turning to clomid and IUI - though I suspect we would have concieved without, I was antsy to get the show on the road and have an OBGYN in the family, so it was an easy decision. Plus we hypothesized that it was possible in the 7 years between kids that my cervical mucous had thickened enough to inhibit easy conception. I charted during my TTC phase and I do ovulate every month.

I don't know why Cfers would have problems with hormones used for ovulation - I'd ask what research backs that up? it seems that CF moms are still new enough that a lot of docs really don't know what they are dealing with and want to err eveything on the side of caution (sometimes extreme caution). But as you'll see, most of us have had very easy, uncomplicated pregnancies and healthy babies.

Hi Leah,

I had a very low BMI until I was nearly 19. I finally hit 100 lbs about a month before my 19th birthday and that's when my period finally started. When I was 26 my DH and I decided to ttc. 26 months, 1 laporoscopic surgery for endometriosis, 3 failed clomid IUI's and one successful IVF later....we were finally pregnant with twins. I had no problems with my CF being on clomid or the IVF injectible hormones. I was overstimulated but not OHSS. I have never heard that hormones could be bad for CFers. I don't menstruate any more since I don't want to have more kids and I generally find it to be too painful (endometriosis causes severe menstral cramps sometimes) so I take the birth control pill continuously. I haven't had a period since the twins were born over 2.5 years ago. My CF doctor has never said there could be problems with those hormones and my CF.

I got my period at 13 and was not developmentally delayed. I had big breasts for a 12 year old LOL. My period was very regular right from the beginning. Then I went on the pill for many years and was very regular while on the pill. When I came off the pill in April '06 I cycled on average every 34 days. It would vary 2 or 3 days plus or minus. I never observed slick, stretchy cervical mucus and thought for sure I wouldn't be able to conceive. I would pass a rubber cement ball of fertile cervical mucus on day 21 of my cycle. I noticed this while observing my cycle and used OPK and confirmed ovulation. We gave it a go the following month and tried to make baby and voila...

I got my first period right before my 13 bday. I was always thin but developed
normally.

I read your response to my IUI post so I will answer here rather then start a new post! I am always happy to talk about my TTC journey. When we were trying to get pregnant the first time I so wanted to talk to every Cf women with children. I wanted to hear every story and gather as much info as possible. Now that I have been there I feel honored to share my experience with others!

I have regular cycles. Before having my daughter I had 29 days cycles with ovulation on day 15. Since having my daughter I have 30 days cycles with ovulation on day 16.

There are many women with longer cycles that get pregnant. Charting and ovulation predictor kits can help pinpoint ovulation.

Thick cervical mucus in women with CF can certainly make trying to conceive a longer process.

I got pregnant twice without fertility treatments. I am not sure how long it took us to get pregnant the first time around. I was off birth control for 2 years but I did not chart, use OPK or even time intercourse we just did not avoid pregnancy. I miscarried the first pregnancy. It took 14 cycles to get pregnant again and that was with charting and OPK. We were to try IUI the next cycle had we not gotten pregnant. Now we are trying for another baby. We have been trying for 10 months and as you know will try IUI next month. We are trying unmediated IUI because the RE we see is VERY conservative and does not want to risk multiples. If we tell him we want to be more aggressive he will honor our wishes but for now we feel comfortable going unmediated. Just like Wanderlust I feel confident that we could get pregnant again on our own but doing IUI is an option for us at this point and I feel confident that IUI is the right path for us.

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I am sure you are not the only one who has questions and I am sure I am not the only one who is eager to share!

Take care!
