Of course I'm going to call my doctor and ask but her office isn't open until Monday. BUT I'm checking in to the hospital on August 17th but I have an important commitment on the 18th for 6 hours in the middle of the day. I was just curious if the hospital would let me leave for 6-8 hours while I'm checked into the hospital.
Has any one heard of anything like that?

They used to, but from what I've heard hospitals don't do that anymore-liability reasons now. They'll probably discharge you and readmit you the next day. Why not just come in late the 18th or on the 19th? Is 2 days really going to make or break you?

A few years ago I went in for a scheduled tune up on July 1st that turned into a need for a full on exacerbation. Well I had tickets for a once in a lifetime concert on the 22nd. (like $1000 tickets!!) I had no clue I'd be in the hospital that long of course. They discharged me and I had to get re admitted the following week.
The concert was worth it...
Thanks for the post!
They want me to have a three week window to stay but between work and going back to school I only have a two week window from August 17th to the 1st of September- So two days isn't a really a big deal except I'm already giving them less days than they want.

What about the possibility that I could go in on the 17th, get my PICC and then officially check in on the evening of the 18th? Then I would be ahead of the game and they can start pumping me with drugs that night as opposed to waiting until the next afternoon. Would that be too ridiculous to even ask?

The children's hospital I go to (havent been in the adult hospital yet) and they used to give me day passes. They let me drive from madison to milwaukee to go to class and come back to the hospital, i was gone for about 8 hours. just had to sign something that said I wasn't gonna sue them if something went wrong. I get day passes almost every day when im in the hospital. Im in isolation due to MRSA so its nice to get out of "prison" for an hour or 2 just to get some fresh air. I would be surprised if they wouldn't let you do it.
i would ask about the picc being placed the day before, they generally don't like doing it in hospital rooms anyway

It stinks that you have to do this now when theres alot going on, but that is the way it is of course. Your health comes first though-Take care!
Thanks so much for both of your responses!
I have an appointment on the 9th so I'll be able to talk about my options then. Hopefully it all works out!
