All I can tell you is this. Last year I had to take Cipro for a totally non Cf related thing and I felt terrific CF-wise afterwards. I had never been on it before. Recently, I needed to take an antibiotic for a sinus infection/flare up, and I had to take levaquin because it is safer for breastfeeding (my babe is 3mo). I really didn't feel a bit better afterwards. Granted I didn't have a sputum analysis after either time, but I think I know my body pretty well and I would say that the levaquin just didn't do it...but I might not have taken it long enough either (I was weary with the nursing - and not breastfeeding is not an option for me at this time).

Well speaking for Reece, he has made a complete 180 since on Levo. His 02 has come up to 95~98! Is has been 89~92. He has stopped throwing up in the morning & has stopped coughing all night! He also has started eating more throughout the day, & has been feeling pretty good!!!! I will ask that he stays on it another week though. The reasoning for his doctor putting him on Levo INSTEAD of Cipro is that she said they were having better outcomes on their patients while on Levo. (So far Reece is a good outcome patient as well) I am very happy to finally see him "feel good"....so I would say Levo has worked for him!!!!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

decreased efficacy, i forgot to add in my post above, means increaesd promotion of resistance.

clinically a patient may feel better, but a weaker antibiotic can promote resistance sooner.

it's like a patient on TOBI, who clincally feels better, but skips a few treatments here and there. feeling better clinically does not mean that you are not promoting resistance.

Levaquin works wonderful for me, usually better than Cipro. Infact I was really sick last year and trying to avoid the hospital. I did 14 days of Cipro 500mg with no improvement but felt almost back to normal after a few days of 750mg levaquin.

And yes I have PA, thats what I was taking it for.

The doctor told us that they do see the reaction once in a while and he usually has to really make a case to Andrew before Andrew will agree to take it.

When Andrew takes it, levofloxin can cause some pretty awful joint pain ( usually knee/elbow/and especially wrist ) and swelling. The wrist joints especially seem to swell the most and it becomes painful to even write with a pen or a pencil. For Andrew it seems to depend on the length of time he is on it and the dosage level that determines how bad it is.

This isn't to say that this happens to everyone. We all react differently to different things.

I had a course of Levoquin about a year ago. I thought it worked as well as Cipro but I didn't get diahrea like I do with a high dose of Cipro.
