I tried Lexapro and the only thing I can say about it is it made me nautious/incompasitated if I missed a dose by an hour or two! I was never able to give it a chance to see if it helped the depression.
I've had severe depression (suicidal) for the last 20+yrs. I have tried different a/d's, including lexapro. For me, the only one that works against the suicidal thoughts is Prozac. Prozac is also a good med for people with anxiety/obsessive compulsive behaviors.
Dr's are reluctant to use Prozac because it is considered an old a/d. However, that shouldn't matter. What matters is what works FOR YOU. They made different a/d's for a reason - what works on one person may not work on another. It takes a good 6 weeks to feel the full effect of a new a/d - so give it time.
If you find this one isn't working that great, after that time period, ask to try another. And keep trying them. The dr tried to tell me that I was on the "best" one....but the truth was, if it wasn't working for me, then it's not the best one. I had to PUSH the dr's to give me prozac and that has been the only one that helped.
The benefit of Prozac is it's half life is longer, so, you don't feel the nautious side effects if you miss a dose, like with the newer a/d's on the market. That is what I didn't like about lexapro (I think that was the last one that I tried that made me nautious).
Only you can determine what works best for you and that can only be accomplished by trial and error. I hope the first one is the right one !!!
Best Wishes and don't give up hope / trying !
