My parents got all the grandkids life insurances when they were born. But they would typically "drag" around and wouldn't get it till a couple of months after birth. By that time, my little girl was diagnosed and she couldn't get covered.
I have a policy on her from work, but its really small.
I'm a cancer survior and have the same problem getting life insurance on my own. I was in hte army at the time and my mom made me sign up for the veterans group life insurance policy when I got out. I was 21 and single, why did I need a 200K policy? Good thing I did that.
I've suggested to new parents who were thinking thier child had CF and wanted to get tested to first get a life insurance policy. I've been critized because thats not doing the best for hte health of hte kids. I don't buy that. These were parents who were more concern due to history than the child actually showing signs of CF. Waiting a week for a test would not affect their health.
I think people take for granted the ability of getting life insurance and then find out they can't get it. It should be a priorty because when you're like me and can't get it, it really effects the way you plan for your family.
