Liver / Lung Transplant

How many have had this? What do you think? The ones who have had this transplant, would you do it all over again? Also, i know your life changes, but besides taking alot of medicine, can you travel go outside,etc... I do not mean to sound domb or anything, but you hear so many stories. Like you really can not go outside much. So i guess what i really want to know what are the things you really really have to be extra careful about. I would like to hear from someone who has gone through this, whether it be the person or the loved one that was there through it all.

I have not had a transplant...yet. so I don't know the specifics when it comes to lungs. But I will tell you something neat, Phil Lesh, the bass player for the Grateful Dead, had a liver transplant about nine years ago and he is a busy man. He still tours all over the country, playing in all kinds of venues. They played Red Rocks for 5 nights in a row (! boy that was good) the past two years. If that's not gonna make you tired, I don't know what will.

Hi,
I had a lung transplant 7.5 years ago, and my sister 4 years ago.

After lung tx you are immune compromised... meaning you have an immune system, but it is lower than others.

Can you go outside, travel, play sports, work etc... Sure you can... that is why they give you a tx. They don't want you to live in a bubble.... but you have to be careful. Wearing masks, avoiding areas with sick people, washing hands, taking your meds, being compliant with your center are some of the key points of post tx life.

I have done so much since tx. I work, volunteer by speaking to high schools, college, nurse managers on organ donation; have traveled by plane at least 50 times since tx, garden, soared in a glider, participated in the transpant games doing volleyball and running the 1/4 mile; part of 5 board of directors for various CF and Tx groups; bike, hike, swim, and much more. I hope to start dodge ball in the next few weeks.

Are you listed for a tx? Your center will give you rules also.
