Hello my name is Thomas my daughter Jasmine is 12 and she has had a port for about the last five years. We have noticed a lot of swelling in her face so we took her to the doctor and the have said that her superior vena cava thats the vein going into the heart has a lot of scar tissue around the cather that come out of the port. This is blocking blood flow from the upper body from traveling back to heart the way it should. They are calling this Superior Vena Cava Syndrome and want to go thru the Cather to steint the vein back open. They sad they can not just pull the cather out and then go thru for fear of it clossing up. If the can not get the stent to work the want to do open heart surgey and replace that vein with a plastic one. Just wondering has anyone ever heard of this in a CF patienet due to the port cather?
