loss of taste...

hi everyone...For the past few weeks I have experienced some new things. Everyone knows the normal color and texture mucous that comes outta our lungs, right? Well I have been having to blow my nose like 10 times a day and its the same color and texture as the stuff from my chest, but the stuff from my nose looks like streaks of blood in it. This all started right after I finished high-dose antibiotic 2 week treatment. I took augmentin 500mg and bactrim 500mg, one of each in the morning and same at night. Also using nasonex for years now. A few days after the treatment was done, I lost my ability to taste and smell.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

sounds like maybe a sinus infection?!! i would work on getting back on antibiotics for a bit, and perhaps see an Ear Nose and Throat doctor to check out your nose and make sure nothing fishy is going on up there.....

Yep sounds like a sinus infection. The ENT would be the way to go IMHO too- I got only minimal relief trying to deal with it through my cf clinic, but things got much better after I went to the ENT. Also, sinus rinses (neti pot, etc.- lots of threads here on that <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"> ) help me a lot.

I agree with the infection possibility. When the sinuses are that problematic and stopped up, the sense of smell (and subsequently the sense of taste) can go away.

Streaks of blood in the stuff coming from your nose can either be from 1) infection 2) severe dryness and overblowing. The fact that you mention using Nasonex makes me think that it's possibility number 2. It might be time to switch to a different sinus spray. Have you tried using a saline flush for your sinuses?

I experienced this before I had my second sinus surgery.
