I agree I don't think there is anything wrong with being completely upfront with your doctor about how you feel. After all it is your health care and the doctor is there to treat you, which means accommodating you in the way that you feel best benefits your health in and out of the hospital. It's pretty clear that the medical care you received wasn't up to par with what you are accustom to and deserve! No need to feel bad about addressing that and my guess is your doctor will feel much better finding out now, rather then down the road in a more compromising health situation.

As far as the blood sugars go, are you on long or short acting insulin or both? I also have CFRD and have in the last couple years have steered clear of steroids at all cost because of the roller coaster like fluctuations that they can cause in your bs levels. I know for me personally it took about 2weeks to be able to tweak things via sliding scale to where it really leveled things out. So when I was on steroids for a month or two I was able to manage my bs pretty well after that first 2wk trial period. So if you are on steroids for 2wks or less you will probably just have to try your best to correct while staying a bit on the low end of your correcting dose of insulin to steer clear of bottoming out.

I was also on IV's every 6hrs at the beginning of the summer while I was working and it was a bit tricky at times. But if you can schedule a lunch or a quick break time to hook up during work then your probably home free for an hr or hr and half while it infuses. I always just try to have everything drawn up and prepared in my cooler as much as possible that way the pre time is cut out equation while at work. It sucks I know, but hang in there and remember how much better you going to feel after this round of IV<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Good Luck and get well!

I usually have to increase both basal and fast acting insulin when taking even a small 4mg dose of prednisone. I try to consult with my endocinologist before making changes though. Especially since I am prone to and have a difficult time recognizing lows.
Every six hours is a big challenge especially if this is bagged iv antibiotics. I wonder if the method of delivery could be changed.

I wanted to respond to the ABPA question. I have been on Sporanox of almost a year and was on steroids for about 8 months. One thing I have noticed that's helped greatly is taking in extra antioxidents. I have been getting extra through Monavie, an acai berry juice. It's a little expensive but you can also get TexX bars through Usana. There are 14 bars in a box and studies from 3rd party company show that one box has as much antioxidents as 13.8 bottles of Monavie. I've tried lots of nutritional supplements and more Eastern medicine remedies w/ no avail. I can tell huge difference in the mucous production and tightness that I feel with ABPA.
