well, interesting. Our doctor just called and Owen cultured staph. He is going on Bactrum. AND, she agreed it's not asthma causing this....
In a daze, not sure what to think. Off to get med to give him ASAP.</end quote></div>
I'm glad you got some answers, hopefully the bactrim will kick the staph. Honestly, I would be very concerned if Piper was productively coughing and they told me to take her OFF nebs. I would seriously question the Dr the next time you have an appointment. 5 weeks of a mucus producing cough is never a good thing for a CFer, it means something is going on. The ideal baseline cough is NO cough, especially for kids. Is he on any inhaled antibiotics? That's something else I would ask about if he's not.
Unfortunately you really have to stay on top of things with our kids, they tend to get worse, not better. I could not tell you the last time Piper got a cold or virus that it did not turn into an exacerbation. Sometimes they can be taken care of with just oral antibiotics, but more often than not in the past 3 yrs or so, she ends up on IVs. Not saying that will happen with Owen, or that it's the norm (it's not for most CF kids), but I hate to think how much more quickly things would have progressed for her if something like a productive cough was not treated for over a month. Sorry if I made you worry more and not less, not my intention at all, but just the thoughts I got from reading your posts.
