We got our written report from my 4 year old daughter's birthday visit at the CF clinic. Everything checked out well on her radiographs and bloodwork except they said her vitamin K level was a little low and we need to start a supplement 3 times a week. Is this common?? Are there any foods we should be giving her that are high in Vit K?? It makes me a little nervous since I know Vit K is important for blood clotting........

My vitamin K has always been boarder line, but because of a blood clotting problem I do not take supplements. I've heard that a lot of us with CF take ADEKs. ADEK's (I don't take it, although I take seperate A, D and E supplements) is a vitamin supplement that is taken because of the inability to sufficiently absorb the fat soluable vitamins A, D, E and K.

Hi, Dana. I'm the guess dietitian from Nature's One, Inc. and have been checking for questions where I may be of some assistance. It's not unusual for children with fat malabsorption problems, such as with cystic fibrosis, to need supplemental Vitamin K. The following website reviews a lot about Vitamin K and also has a chart showing good food sources. Hope this is helpful. Diane Wilson, RD
