lower birthweight in cf babies?

i hope this doesn't sound ignorant but do cf babies have a lower birth weight. my eldest was 8 pound 1 and i assumed my next baby was going to be heavier. i was "dissapointed" when i found out he was 6 pounds 11 'cos second babies are usually heavier than the first. bearing in mind we didn't know joe had cf until he was 6 yrs old.also if we had known he had cf at birth (he just missed national screening by approx. 2 months) what treatment would he have had from birth. he showed no sign of any problems til he had pnuemonia just before his 6th birthday. ( in hindsight his nappies used to stink to high heaven the nappy thing just crept up on us and we thought it was normal we would never have considered taking him to drs. because he had smelly nappies!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! My son was a little over 6 pounds at birth but he was three weeks early. So I think if I would have went three more weeks he would have been around 7 1/2 pounds (just like my other children). So I dont really know if the lower birth weight had anything to do with cf or not????? My son was diagnosed at 2 weeks old and they started him on enzymes and albuterol with chest pt twice per day.

My boys were 4lbs 10 and 4lbs 11. Saying that, they are twins and I had them at 36 weeks so I dont think thats a bad weight at all!

I think they are lower weight. My first born was 8 pounds 15 ounces, no CF. Hayley was 6 pounds 12 ounces, w/CF. I had a planned c-section and I remember them telling me the weight and I said no that's not right, weigh her again! But she was only 6 pounds 12 ounces!!

Max was 7 pounds 10 ounces and 18"; however, he was at least two weeks early -- think I was at 37 weeks when I went into labor. First baby, so didn't expect him until the middle of June. Born with meconium illeus. L

Hi,
My nine month old (w/CF) weighed 11 lbs 2ozs at birth! The biggest of all of my children. My daughter (no cf) weighed 9 lbs 10 ozs, my oldest son (no cf) weighed 8 lbs 7 ozs.
Go figure.

Abby was 8 pounds, 1 oz and nearly 21 inches long, my doctor was amazed when they weighed her because they kept telling me in my long 5 days of labor that she was no more than 7 pounds. She was just all arms and legs!

so far there does'nt seem to be a correlation between cf and lower birth weight , does there? some do seem smaller and some definately don't

I don't think it makes any difference. My eldest daughter (without CF) was born 3 days over her due date and weighed 7lbs 2 oz. My youngest daughter (with CF) was born 3 weeks early and weighed 6lbs 11 oz.

Sophia (w/cf) was 6 pounds 10 ounces. Jack (w/cf) was 7 pounds, 9 ounces. These weights are very similiar to most of their cousins.

My youngest, with CF weighed in at 5lbs 3oz (he was almost 2 weeks early), my middle child was 5lbs 9 oz, and my oldest weighed in at 5lbs 5 oz. Needless to say, I am on the "small" size, maybe that reflects the weight?

How many ppl had their CF babies early????? Addison was 2 weeks early, and it seems like almost everyone else went early too. I'm wondering if theres a correlation???? She was 6 pounds 7 ounces - the smallest baby in both our families (my husbands and mine) in many generations. we were expecting a big baby (I was 9 pounds, he was 10) but got a tiny little peanut instead

My niece was 5 lbs 8 oz when she was born mom only gained 23 pounds while pregnant. She was born one day early. definitally hard gaining weight for her...she weighed 15lbs at 11 months until she wa diagnosed.
I believe cf babies are born at low birth weight.
