Lung Damage

Thanks everyone -

Obviously I know truly PERMANENT damage cannot be reversed. I guess I was just wondering how you know if what you've got actually IS permanent. I suppose I know too that the only way to answer that question is to get those lungs as cleaned out as possible, which is what I'm trying to do. I think I was just feeling a bit down when I originally posted and was secretly hoping to hear about some great success stories of people who were able to bring their numbers up.

Wheezie-if you want a story here you go:

in 2005/2006 I was compliant in the snes I woudl do all my meds but I was 1/2 ass compliant meaning my times were never consistent, sometims I woudl 'skip' a day or I did alot nebs on road so I would someitmes forget a cup or a med so I woudl just not do it. All in all I would do anywhere from 50-75% of what I should. My numbers during those years I woudl guess were around an average of 95% most the time. Dec 2006 I had my daughter. Now in 2007 I do all my meds with about 95+% compliance and work out 30min-hour 4-5days a week. In February my PFT's were up to 97%. Now in June I got a bad cold that got into my lungs and I just did IV's. My post IV PFT was 105%, that is the highest it has ever been.

I obviously am not saying everyone can get up to 105% but the gain that I had ~ 10% is all due ot my increased compliance and excercise. I would wonder whehter somenoe with moderate disease that is hanging out at those #'s due to compliance issues couldnt have an even bigger jump? I dont know what your story is but I bet you can improve!

My lowest has been 57% which was in January, now its at 104% (I started running 3.5km a day) . My doc told me they can't actually tell what is permanent and what is not. Excersize is a huge factor in getting those pfts up, when I was younger I had 130% lung function because all I did was sport.
