Lung function tests--whats a "normal" number

Hey everyone! Happy Holidays!!!

I have been going to every doctors appt. with my fiance-He is 31 w/CF newly diagnosed. Every time he has the PFT's done they only mention if he has improved or declined in function..

My question is what are some "average" PFT numbers for people with CF?

I appreciate any feedback on this. : )

there are no real averages, it is measured in percentile.

75 + is considered mild

45-75 is moderate

under 45 is severe

well there are many #s that are measured for PFT's.

FEV1 = how much air can be blown out in 1 second
FVC = how much air the lungs can hold
75-25% = small airway function

For FEV1 (# that is most often quote for lung function), Chris' #s are pretty accurate. above 90% is considered normal lung function.

I believe for it to be considered severe lung disease, you have to be under 40 percent fev1, not 45.
