i'm 18yrs and only weigh 40kg. the transplant team here want me to put on another 10 or so kg's before they put me on the waiting list. i was wondering if anyone who has had a lung transplant can tell me anything about the surgery. the doc's have tried to explain it but i need to know from someone who has experienced it first hand. how long did it take for you to recover? did you get your peg (button) taken out after a while? Whats the scar like? stuff like that. thanks heaps

Sami,If you want to put on some weight check the post "Curcumin Updates" there is a guy on there his name is Richard. He started taking Curcumin 95 and has gained 12 Kilo's in 3 months and his mucus thinned and PFT's went up. I just bought mine.Dave 29 w/cf

Dave she asked about the surgery not how to put on weight. Besides the curcumin stuff is supposed to in the Trial phase... But enough about that. I'm 18 now and had my transplant 12 days after my 17th birthday... what a present. For the adult clinic that I go to you need to be at least 93 lbs or 42 kg to transplant. Since mine is strictly adult if I had dropped below that point I would have had to start over in the childrens transplant program. I can't tell you what it was like to experience it first hand, it's really something you have to go through for yourself. As for me they put me under and I woke up in a drug filled haze. Which pretty much describes the first week or so. If the doctor's are happy with your weight gain after transplant, and trust me you will gain weight the meds take care of that, then yes you do get the peg taken out. I think it was 3 months afterward for me. Whats the scare like? I'm not sure what you mean there, scare or scar. But that's about all I can answer for you right now.

No that's fine, it's just that I personally am a little leery of the curcumin at this point. I've heard so much crap going around the net that is incorrect... and very little that is. I was a little frustrated when I read that, so I guess I kinda snapped at you (if that's possible on the net?) Sorry about the personal opinion there. -Candice
