I was just wondering if any CFers out there have ever taken or take lyrica? And if it effective at all, how it makes you feel, any side effects or anything? I was put on neurontin for neuropathy and it made me feel really shitty so i stopped, and now im thinking about starting the lyrica so i was just wondering if anybody had any experience.any input is very much appreciated. thanksss

I do not have CF but have been on both Neurontin and Lyrica. What kind of negative side effects made you stop taking the Neurontin? Both caused cognitive side effects... that passed but it took quite a while (probably 3-4mo.) I did like Lyrica better than Neurontin. I was on it for a couple years. Both caused an increase in appetite, which I really did not need, but it was manageable.

It you decide to try it, I wish you the best.

I just didnt feel right at all after i took it for about 3 days, it made me dizzy and sick to my stomach .. i think it also changed my mood a little bit and im not usually sensitive to meds because im on a million different ones all the time for my cf lol .. but i think im gonna give lyrica a try, i hear pretty good things about it and my whole body is in terrible pain and nothing has worked for me. im also desperately trying to put on weight so i guess that will be a good thing if i gain some! thank you so much for the info though.

My mum took. But she stopped. I don't really know what it did to her but sometimes she just couldn't follow a conversation, or wouldn't remember something. She stopped and it's getting better again, thankfully.

Harriett, are those the cognitive side effects you talked about? I found them quite scary.

My mum has neuropathy as well.

I have CF and I'm currently on lyrica for a mitochondrial disease with muscle involvement. There are days when I feel like it helps, and then others where I feel like it barely touches the pain.

I get a little loopy after I take it, I babble and I am a talker anyway (lol). I usually do not drive because of my muscles so I'm not sure if the lyrica would affect that or not. I was on neuontin before but it did nothing for me, and since my disease is rare they were unsure of how to treat it. Lyrica was actually a prescript I got for shingles, while taking it my legs felt so much less achey and crampy than usual. So they kept me one it...

I don't take it everyday, it is an as needed thing for right now; but my doc did tell me that if I was taking it on a regular basis that I wouldn't feel so loopy after taking it.

Hehehe to put it bluntly I felt like an idiot. My short term memory was definitely affected right at the beginning- that improved fairly quickly, but overall I felt like I was kind of functioning underwater for a while (you know how you feel before you have your morning coffee?? Like that, but worse.) I was glad I stuck it out because it was a really good med for quite some time, but it was tough in the beginning.

Katie, your 2nd post reminded me- it did make me nauseous at the very beginning... but that went away pretty fast and the increased appetite kicked in.
