Maintenance Zithromax without Pseudomonas??

My dr at my cf center explained to me:

Zithromax used as a maintenance in those with CF is NOT used as an antibiotic.

Instead, the zithro breaks down the protein that surrounds the mucus. This protein is what makes the mucus thick and sticky.

However, I don't know if that applies to all bugs, or just PA. I have both PA and staph.

Sally, that is the reasoning as to why I was placed on Zithromax as well, it acts as an anti inflammatory too. Jenn

On a quick note, I generally refrain from taking any antibiotic, as they stifle your immune system, opening the door for infections of other areas. Antibioitcs cause your body to operate in a totally unnatural way. The only way I would take any antibiotic is if I absolutely require it, then I would flush it out of my system immediately after.

Avery has been on it long before she ever had pseudo, we were told it was to help reduce inflammation.
