Making a very quick move

Hi all.

Sorry it has taken me so long to update on Courtney. She was in the hospital for a few days, received IV antibiotics and sent home. They never did quite figure out what was going on with her.

Yesterday I found out we are moving to the Austin area on MONDAY. Very quick decision and move.

After having the problems we did with getting the care she needed out here without a cf center, I am thrilled we are moving!

Any suggestions on cf centers in the Austin, TX area? Courtney has Tricare (military benefits). Does Ft Hood have a cf center? I know Lackland in San Antonio does, but we will be much closer to Ft Hood.

Also, Courtney will be turning 18 in September so should we be looking for an adult cf center now?

Hi, I guess depending on where in Austin you are moving could put Ft. Hood closer than Lackland. San Antonio is an hour away from Austin. Traffic on I35 is horrific if you are not used to traffic. No matter which way you go. As far as I know, Ft. Hood does not have a CF center, the closest CF center from Ft.Hood is Scott & White in Temple. They were a in network clinic last time I checked. Austin does have a CF center, I think it might be a part of Brackenridge hospital but I am not positive.

In my opinion if Seana is 18 and she is having to adjust to a new center anyway, I'd go ahead and see how she feels about moving to an adult clinic. Why make a temporary adjustment, find out she loves the docs in the peds. clinic only to have to transition in a year?

So jealous!! We love, love, love Austin.

When I was there 2001-2004 I saw Allen Frank out of Brackenridge Hospital. At the time he saw adults but wasn't accredited as an adult cf doctor by the CFF. Since then I do not believe he takes new adults.

I don't have any experience w/ CF centers in Austin, but just wanted to echo LouLou that I'm super jealous that you're moving to Austin <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I was just in Austin this past weekend for a triathlon...It's a fantastic city, so much do, so many local restaurants, etc, just amazing. I'm hoping to live there one day.

I would def recommend going ahead and transitioning to an adult CF center since she is already almost 18. I'm only familiar w/ the one in Houston, which is about 3 hours away...I've heard good things about the one in Dallas as well, but I've never been there personally.
