Hi. I am a 30 year old male with CF. When I was young I was told I could have no children. I learned later that there was a procedure that could be done that could make it so males with CF could have children.

I was wondering what this procedure is... how much is costs... and how effective it was. I was also wondering if someone could provide me a place to do more research on this subject. I have heard a little, but I would like to learn alot more and just can't seem to find anything. I have heard IVF can work and I don't know how much that costs either... also are there any more procedures like maybe surgical? I thought there was a surgical procedure to correct the problem.. If so how much does this cost too?
Help would be VERY appreciated.
Again thank you so much!

Hi mc,

I'm on the other side of the fence, but I can help some.

The only procedure that I know of to help a man with CF have children is IVF. It usually runs around $30,000.00, depends too on your location. For Pennsylvania, that's about the going rate. There is a girl named Julie on this website. Her husband, Mark 20something, has CF. They underwent IVF around 1 year ago. They have their own website all about CF male infertility and IVF. Browse around the Pregnancy Section of this forum and you will find the link in her posts.

As far as the success rate, I'm not so sure. I really haven't looked into that. I'm a 25-year-old female with CF trying to conceive.

Honestly, for a male with CF I don't know anything other than IVF. Females have more options. However, I strongly suggest getting a hold of Julie to ask. She know so much more than I do about male infertility. Their IVF succeeded and they have a set of triplets today that are 6-months-old.

Good luck and take care!
