I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT WHEN I READ THIS STORY! WHAT A HORRIBLE MAN!

(West Cornwall-WTNH, Sept. 20, 2006 6:00 PM) _ Authorities say they have arrested a con man whose latest victim is his own 8-year-old son.

The Connecticut man has been convicted in another money scheme, but now he's accused of hurting his child for financial gain.

It's one thing to make your 8-year-old son think he has Cystic Fibrosis and go to family and friends for financial support, but prosecutors charge that 39-year-old Michael Bradway actually tried to make his son sick.

They say "Bradway allegedly had persuaded his wife, the child's grandparents, and school personnel that his son was afflicted with the disease and required a limited diet."

Prosecutor John Massameno says,"There is plenty of evidence in this regard."

Prosecutors say when the child was taken into state custody he was thin and had since gained weight. The Bradways lived in a West Cornwall neighborhood when prosecutors claim he hatched the plan.

They say that "Bradway also fabricated bills as part of a scheme to defraud his wife's parents of over $38,000 to cover medical expenses." It was a plan that worked until his estranged wife caught on.

Massemeno says,"It was the mom who became suspicious and took steps to get to the truth."

If true, it would not be Bradway's first scam. He was arrested in 1994 for operating as an unregistered broker in Massachusetts and prosecutors say Bradway convinced other businessmen he was a philanthropist whose offices at the World Trade Center were destroyed on September 11th.

Bradway was arrested this morning at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington and brought straight to Bantam Superior Court in a hospital gown looking despondent.

He will be arraigned tomorrow. He is being held on $500,000 bond.

I guess we would never know if someone was doing it on this site. It would be quite easy to do when you will never meet the person.

I know it happens. Making your child sick to get attention is called Munchausen by proxy. Making yourself sick for attention is called Munchausen Syndrome.

I watched a documentary on it once.....it was unbelievable what these parents would do to their kids just to get attention!

I am familiar with a mother who jerked her toddlers arm hard enough to pull it out of the socket claiming it was an accident and then sent pictures to family and friends saying how adorable she thought her little girl looked in a sling. I am still wondering if I did the wrong thing by not reporting the incident to Child and Family Services. You just never know how far some people will go. Really very sad to be so needy and mentally unbalanced.
