Maximum enzymes

I know locally there was a child who was very very PI and they tried an acid reducer. I believe eventually they switched to the U of MN clinic who prescribed oral mucomyst, whic help significantly.

We've never been told that there's a cap for DS, just base number of enzymes on output. And it does take an AWFUL lot of enzymes to cause issues. If the extra capsule was working, I would make sure that the clinic knows that and maybe they need to look at a different enzyme that will work better for your child. Pancrease MTs, Creon, Ultrase, Pancreacarb, zenpep....

my daughter was severly PI when she was about 9 months old, they put her at the max and that still didnt work, so they added prevacid 2x daily to our routine...that has done the trick for us..it has reduced the acid in her belly allowing the enzymes to work longer and better and absorb more nutrients.

Thanks everyone. I've gotten some very helpful info. He is on Nexium once a day. I may request the mucomyst. That sure couldn't hurt.

just a note: my daughter was on nexium at first also...but for some reason???who knows...it didnt really work so they switched to prevacid and it helped. i dont know what the difference is between them, its been so long ago (new cf info has pushed old cf info out of my brain, lol) i dont remember exactly why, but it worked.
