MCT Oil

I was just wondering if anyone else was using this oil and where they were finding it. We bought a bottle from the pharmacy, but it was very expensive. I was hoping maybe someone knew of somewhere online i might purchase it. We are only using 5 to 7.5 ml per bottle for Mason right now, but every dollar saved is a big help at this point. Thank you in advance.

Hello - I have never heard of this. I have a five month old with CF. Did the CF center suggest this to you? Just curious.

Thanks.

You should be able to find the oil in most health food/body building stores. As far as online, I don't know but if you know the company or manufacturer of the one you bought from the pharmacy, you might try doing a search that way.

MCT is a form of/ made from coco nut oil. Normal coconut oil is the same thing but less processed and much cheaper. Even a good quality (cold pressed) organic coconut oil is not overly expensive. You buy it and it come hard so you have to melt it but you will definitely save $$$. Coconut oil/mct are great for cfers as they are more easily digested, someone correct me if I'm wrong but if I remember it is due to short and long chain triglysarides (sp?). Coconut oil does still have a coconutty flavour which is one of the main reasons some people prefer mct BUT coconut oil in a less processed form is an amazing antibacterial and anti viral agent - if you google you will find some good info.

I'm sure you are already aware of this but both mct and coconut can cause upset tummies and cramps so you should always be cautious and gradually increase dosage!

Good luck<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I have been using coconut oil for my dd sinbg she was 1 y/o maybe. It is more easily absorbed b/c these are medium chain triglicerides. I saw huge benefits in terlms of weight gain, she went from 25th percentile to over 75th.

I am not so sure about anti bacterial and anti viral properties though, she has been catching every bug that came along this year.

so far I have been buying organic but odorless kind, which is not as good as extra virgin since it has been processed. I plan on trying the extra virgin and see if she tolerates the coconut taste.

i think i started by baby on coconut oil at 4 mo? (she is 6 1/2 mo now) She LOVES it. With a recent cough and decrease appetite, she still ate her coconut oil. she likes to feed herself and given the texture of the oil (unheated) she can with little mess (just oily hands/mouth). Her weight also did improve after we started.
can anyone give a range for safe amt for a baby weighing between 14-15lbs?
i currently give about 1/2 baby spoon 3-4x/day. it is extra virgin organic
