Medical Alert Bracelet

So we got a pamphlet from my son's school for a free Medical Alert Bracelet. Perhaps as a well intended precaution. But is there a reason why a child with CF would need a Medical Alert Bracelet (it is free). I don't really think one is necessary as my son has no Asthma, Diabetes or Allergies. Am I correct. Thanks in advance.

If it's free, get it, whether he wears it or not, it'd be nice to have available if he goes on a trip or is away from mom and dad for very long. I've thought about getting one, but typically they're fairly expensive and I wouldn't wear it much if at all. I would say be sure the teachers at school and the workers at daycare etc. know about cf, and not worry about the bracelet unless diabetes or something else that could flair up accutely and need medical attention immediately while he is away from his parents. Only cf technically probably qualifies for a bracelet, but I'm not getting one right now, that is, unless anyone could get in on this free medic alert bracelet thing lol

DD has one but it is a necklace. On the back it has an I.C.E. number and it also has Cystic Fibrosis on it. If by some chance something did happen they know up front that she does have CF and to call the ICE #. We paid alot for ours so, if you can get them for free go for it. At least this way you have them for field trips and the like.

I got one for my DD just because it makes me feel better. She's only 3 and not in school or daycare so she's always with my of hubby or another family member, but you never know. I just have her first name, and cystic fibrosis on the front and then on the back I have emergency contact info for me and that she's allergic to amoxicillin. I got a bracelet one that has different bands that we can change out. It's fun for her, like which bracelet are you going to wear today!

Wow!!! You guys are such a terrific resource. I will get the bracelet for my son. I never even thought of putting additional info on the bracelet or just having my son wearing it some of the time like for trips. Thanks.

I definately agree with the others on this one. I got a Medical Alert bracelet for myself. One of the other perks about having it is that you fill out a form which lists all of your medications. In case of an emergency they call the 1800 number listed, give your ID number and the EMT/hospital, etc. will have access to all of the medications that you're on.

It is a little pricey so if you are being offered it at no cost I'd 100% say to get it!!
