Medicare and lung transplant

I have only started trying to figure all this out myself, so I am in no way an expert. I am very interested in what you uncover and wanted to share this with you. I was told that we don't actually have to "wait" for Marissa to need a transplant and can start fundraising for her now. I was recommended to use these people by others:

Good Luck to you!

Remember also that the inpatient Medicare deductable goes up every year so even tho its $1024 for 2008 doesnt mean by the time a transplant is done that it wont be higher.

Then you still have the doctors that also have the 80/20 payment after the outpatient deductable.

Not too mention how it works with all the new meds that would be required.

My husband and I are trying to figure out the primary/secondary/how much we pay thing too.

Does your primary insurance have a yearly max out-of-pocket? If so, this would definitely come in handy. We're planning on hitting the max every year ($2600)... paying 20% of inpatient bills adds up fast. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

We're also hoping that Medicare part A picks up a lot as the secondary payer. I found that the Medicare $1024 inpatient deductible only applies for the first 60 days in a benefit period. I remember reading something that made me think their 'benefit period' is screwy and resets but I can't find which page I was reading (so maybe I'm completely wrong there). Even without ever resetting, 60 days isn't many for a sick CFer!

Here's Medicare's 2009 rate info that includes the deductible and co-pays with number of days:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://questions.medicare.gov/cgi-bin/medicare.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=2100">http://questions.medicare.gov/...d_adp.php?p_faqid=2100</a>

Hope that helps. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

IF you are inpatient free for more then 60 days the INPATIENT hospital deductable would be do again. IF you remain INPATIENT for more then 60 days you not only have the deductable to be responsible for, but the next bracket of time you would owe co insurance on for each day.
