My mother noticed an odd looking mole on my back a few days ago. I've had a few before that came back pre-cancerous. There was nothing that needed to be done about them since the dermatologist removed the mole entirely during the biopsies. I haven't been to the dermatologist in YEARS (it's been well over 6 years) and had different insurance when I did. Now I'm on SSDI, which means I have only medicare A and B and a basic medicaid coverage (coverage for disabled workers). Can I go see the dermatologist to get this looked at? Will it HAVE to be pre-cancerous in order for it to be covered? Should I see my primary care physician first and have him write a letter or recommendation for a dermatologist visit? I thought I read a while ago that medicare doesn't really cover physicals, like general check-ups. They only cover visits with purpose (kind of like how they'll ONLY cover an eye exam if you have diabetes or cataracts) and only 1 a year at that. Should I try to find my previous dermatologist and just go see him, since it was him that removed the moles in the past, and have him battle with medicare coverage without involving my PCP?<br><br>Thanks!<br>

I saw a derm & at the time i had medicare & tricare... i'm not sure how much my medicare picked up but you could find a doctor & then call to find out what you would be expected to pay...

Medicaid is state based so you would need to make sure you are asking a question like this of someone in your state, or call the phone number on the back of your medicaid card.

As far as medicare goes, if they were to cover dermatology, they certainly do not cover 100%.
