Meds and Pregnancy

I am on albuterol, advair, and enzymes. Albuterol given at extrememly high doses to lab rats did produce a cleft palate, but my doc said that he has never seen that in all of his Cf and asthma patients. I am pretty sure I used albuterol with my son as well. I am also pretty sure from the ultrasound that this baby doesn't have a cleft palate, though I did try to really tone down the inhalers for the first 14 weeks - but I found i needed them more than not. Albutereol is listed in the "yellow light" category for pregnancy as if the need outweighs the risk it can be taken. I am not sure about advair. I don't use anythihg else, but I hope this helps. Also, in my two pregnancies, I did have to take a few antibiotics - zithromax, augmentin, and cephlex. Good luck!

The zithro and augmentin I took for sinus infections. I was given the cephlex for the pseudo since I could not take cipro or levaquin during pregnancy. I have had good results from cipro with PA, but I didn't feel the cephlex did much for me at all. I just cultured pseudo this year, so we haven't been too aggressive with it yet as I have been pregnant for most of that time. I never called my doc back after finishing the cephlex even though I really felt no better, as I didn't want to be put on another antibiotic. So to answer your question, yes, cephlex might work for PA, it just didn't seem to do the trick for me, but that is why my Cf doc prescribed it.

Do these drugs treat pseudo. aeriginosa infections?

zithromax, augmentin, and cephlex</end quote></div>

zithromax may prevent a PA flare up...mainly for anti-inflammatory.

Keflex does not treat PA but may be used in conjunction with other antibiotics for synergy for PA
