Men's Ejaculate

I think I may have a small ejaculate, it says the average is between 2 and 5 mL but I am no where near that. Does anyone else have this problem, or does this have nothing to do with cf?

Ok - I'll be the first to attempt to answer this. Men with CF cannot have kids because they are missing a vas deferas (sp?). Maybe this would have something to do with lack of male ejaculate? That being said maybe you have a blockage.

Yup, one of the perks of CF.</end quote></div>

How is that when most of the semen comes from the prostate?

umm, yeah not quite...look at my sig! just wanna make sure that all men know, that until you are tested, you cannot be 100% sure that there aren't bullets in the chamber...

and i believe semen and sperm are created in seperate areas, the vas deferens is just the transport for the sperm and it later mixes with semen.

Well 98% can't have kids naturally, since you are a father, did you do it naturally and if so do you have normal size ejaculate?

S

yup, all natural and all the tests came back as normal for volume and sperm count.

I know that this isn't the case for all CF men - I should have been more specific: 95-98% of CF men.

If they are created in seperate places why is the ejaculate so small compared to normal men?

Male ejaculate with CF does not contain sperm, which is seperate from semen. The semen is the fluid, which guides the sperm from the penis. The bulk of the ejaculate comes from the 70,000,000 sperm in a normal male's ejaculate. So, since 95-98% of CF men don't have the sperm in their ejaculate, they loose a great deal of volume. The infertile CF male has no sperm in the ejaculate due to the absence of the Vas Deferens, which carry the sperm from the testes. While the prostate provides most of the semen, it does not provide the bulk of the ejaculate. The testes do.

I've read an article (I'll post it if I find it) which tells that ejaculate volume is the cf symptom that most CFers are unaware of.

it just squeaked in at #499 after narrowly beating out "smelly

much, hopefully it may be another few dozen years before it comes up
again on the rotation.

If you can't be of help to this persons post, DON'T FREAKING BOTHER TO POST and waste our time wading through your Sh*t to get to the bottom of it, to ensure we aren't repeating.

To the initial poster, as mentioned before anywhere from 95-98% of men with CF CANNOT have children naturally, but many still do father biological children through medical procedures.

YES, a small amount of ejaculate is somewhat an indication of no sperm in your ejaculation but as stated before by S, it is NOT conclusive and it would be wise to have a semen analysis. Surprisingly, most insurance companies cover this laboratory test and many primary care doctors and CF centers routinely.

To answer your other question about volume, the prostate produces the seminal fluid, but the testicles produce the sperm, which is about 50-75% of the ejaculatory fluid and the two fluids travel to the ejaculation point from two different tubes and then "meet up" You can still have ejaculatory fluid if you have an absence of the vas deferens, but you will not have sperm.

Don't loose hope about this matter though, it can be very discouraging but if it is your desire someday, you CAN become a father. After 6 years of hoping and dreaming of becoming parents, my husband and I just went through in vitro and we are expecting babies in October of this year.

If you have any questions, feel free to email him at <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="mailto:division902@hotmail.com">division902@hotmail.com</a>

How much did your entire procedure cost? Including the sperm retrieval.

Sperm retrieval was $600
Anesthesia (not required) was $500 (some insurance companies will pay for this portion)

Labs, ultrasounds, office visits; $7,500.00 (again, many insurance companies will pay for these, if you have an HMO, get a referral. If you have a PPO plan, just find someone in network-unfortunately I have military insurance and they are dumb <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> and paid for nothing)

Egg retrieval, embryo preparation, embryo Transfer-$4,500.00 (this particular clinic WILL NOT bill this portion to insurance because they would never make any money. Not all clinics are like this)
Anesthesia $500.00

Our total was $13,600. and some odd cents.

THere are scholarships you can apply for for IVF. I have some links on my website if you are interested. There's a link to the website on the bottom of my post. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm happy to answer.

And yes, Corroder, I was in part referring to you. If you don't have anything helpful to say... why the heck bother?

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I love all the extra things that have nothing to do w/ my lungs.</end quote></div>

I just wanted to add in here just incase some people are unaware. Cf affects the whole body not just the lungs, the lungs and digestive systems are usually the ones that have more problems is all. Cf causes our mucus to be thicker....practically all organs have some sort of mucus in and around them to function. The mucus is supposed to help keep things flowing smoothly, like a lubracant...or in the case of the lungs help get dirt out or bacterias. BUt in our case since the musus is so much thicker it just causes problems. Like instead of putting oil in the car you put silly putty, just not going to work, maybe for a tiny bit but eventually its going to break for good. I know this isnt a big huge scientific explaination and there is really a whole lot more wrong with us. But I just wanted to point out that CF isnt just a lung disease, its the whole body thats why we have so many problems. It just coming to light all the problems associated with the disease. Where before they thought it was just the lungs and digestive systems. Even today most people dont realize that most of the problems they are having none lung related is still cf related. Lucky us. I dont want to come across as a smart a$$ or anything...obviously im not because I cant use technical terms and probably alot of my explaining is off due to the fact I dont know how to translate my thoughts the right way. There are just some people, cfers (i used to be one of them) that really dont know much about their own disease because they were never told anything other than its a 'lung disease' and really never thought to look things up before. Ok sorry I went off on kinda a rant. So i'll stop now.
