carly- I used to bleed twice a month too. Once was regular menstruation, lasted 5-7 days, the other was ovulation time which only lasted 1-3 days. Still happens at times now, but less frequent. A royal pain in the patootie! Are they pretty regular, like every two weeks?

i used to have it too! It was not ovulation! I was having my period twice a month or around 16-20 days! I went to the doctor and he said not to worry it will regulate itself again. He gave me an ultrasound and since everything seemed normal he said it might be due to excessive stress!

i have not had twice a month problems, but for about 8 straight months my lungs seemed to be competing with my uterus. it even happened on the day i was getting discharged from a tuneup. the hemoptysis would stop within 36 hours, but we never figured out why it was happening. other than my chronic anemia getting slightly worse during these episodes, i dont seem to have suffered any permanent damage. i have also noticed that my overall lung function feels worse when i am starting my cycle along with complete exhaustion the entire week before. anyone else?

As I got older (mid 30's) I started to have very long periods, 9-10 days. They would take a lot out of me, often resulting in a flair up or hemoptysis. At 39 myBGYN suggested edometrial ablation, which is a procedure that destroys the uterine lining, there by stopping your periods. This procedure does not effect anything else, so there is no need for hormone treatments. The procedure takes about 90 seconds...amazing. They do have to put you out slightly, but nothing that my CF doctors were worried about. In 90% of patients your period will stop forever, for the other 10% you may get lighter/shorter periods. For 6 months I had no period, which was amazing!! But then I started to get a very light period again, but nothing like I had before. And the sickness/hemoptsis stopped. The only downside that one might see with this is that you can not get pregnant after doing this. Which was fine for my husband and I as we had decided that adoption was the best option for us. Hope this helps!

I have never had a normal period. ever.
never know when its coming, how long it will last, etc.

went to "lady doctor" to get checked out. they gave me a pill to help regulate. things are better now but will never run perfect.

they think it MIGHT have something to do with CF but not sure.

I have never had a perfect cycle. Spotting.... long cycles... heavy bleeding.... you name it.

I even tried birth control for a while. It ended up causing more troubles in the end.

I am having long and long cycles and shorter and shorter periods. I am heading into menopause and looking forward to the day when it is all over. Not sure what the new hormone changes will do to my lungs and overall health but we shall see.

I would recommend having your iron levels checked every so often. I got pretty low a few years ago and needed a blood transfusions and iron supplements. That was no fun.

I had the same problem too! I went to a doctor that specializes in hormones (forget what they are called lol!) and she put me on a hormone called progesterone. It completely fixed it! Normally my periods are NOT regular at all (Ill go without one for months) but because I was bleeding every 2 weeks and my iron was already low, she was concerned and thats why I was put on progesterone. Otherwise if its not effecting anything, my doctor says its okay since that comes with the territory when you have a chronic disease.
