Merrem (Meropenem) and instability

I'm on home IVs Merrem, Tobramycin and Vancomycin. I had to threaten to use a different home health care provider in order to get my provider to fill my meds in Intermates. After finally agreeing they told me that Merrem would not come in Intermate because it could'nt be premixed. So they gave me these little 1 gram powder and IV bag contraptions (Vial Mate adaptor) that work well except that they are gravity drip which means IV poll UGH!

Point of this post is that I wanted share the news that Merrem can't be premixed. Just in Feb. I was given Meropenem in Intermates that sat in my fridge for a few days. I imagine that Meropenem not just brand Merrem has the same instability. Don't agree to having Merrem premixed in your home and in the hospital I would inquire how long before adminstering the nurse mixed it.

That's very interesting. My home health agency lets me refrigerate it for 4 days. I've used it several times, and gotten better, while taking it each time. So maybe these stability charts are just the worst case scenario? I'll have to ask them about it next time I'm on IVs. Thanks for the heads up!

When I do Merrem I get a week's worth at a time, but I have to keep it in the freezer until no more than 24 hours before I use it, then I can move it to the fridge (or an ice chest bag like I take to work). It was not that big of a deal once I figured out a routine.
