Merrem (Meropenem) and instability

I mix my own Meropenem, but I don't have to use a gravity bag/IV pole.

Ask your home care company if you can get a Freedom 60 pump or something similar. It's not actually a "pump" in the usual sense. It doesn't require batteries or anything, and it's plastic. You put a giant syringe of your medicine into it, and wind it up. It slowly infuses your medicine over an hour. It's not the best, but it's light and they can give you a little belt-bag to carry it around in.

I usually get it premixed in the eclipse balls and keep them refrigerated. They mix and send me a new batch every 3 - 4 days. I have also in the past had the ones that are in powder form attached to the saline bag below and had to mix right before use. I didnt mind the mixing, but i didnt like the gravity bag deal, because it really takes away some of my freedom.

Our Merrem is never premixed - they state that it must be mixed immediately prior to infusion (which matches the PI).

We mix 1G Merrem with 20 mL sterile water (I think that's the amount - it's been a year since we used Merrem), wait until dissolved, draw up with a filter needle, switch to cannula (or remove needle and go direct into luerlock line tip), and do an IV push over 10 minutes - 2mL/min. No IV pole or pump required, and other meds come in intermates/balls.

I used the eclipse balls ( they need to be refrigerated, I mixed the meds and then injected it into the balls and it worked great... hope this helps - I was surprised by how many different infusion methods and issues there are...
